PANDEMIC REFLECTION

By

In the beginning
Sequestered
Apart even in the same house, must stay safe
For there are family members
Employed on the frontlines
And vulnerable family members in the home
Sequestered from the outside, even from the family

Cellphone in hand spewing the rate of climbing cases
Like gusts of a painful wind
As the unrelenting disease builds, moods run ragged
Days register at a slower, perhaps useless, pace
Glimmers of hope quickly dashed
As if this will never veer off into oblivion
I feel like pushing out walls
To recover some semblance of freedom

I peer out a window
The trees turn in elaborate, confusing movements
They must know, and react to this tortuous situation
I imagine they have a role
If only they had the answers

This evil killer seems to possess insurmountable power
Exhausting. Overwhelming. Isolating.
