Parting

His wrinkled face barely able to muster a smile
His wife was away, she had been gone for a while
His back ached and his hands were cold
Only a few days more, he had been told

He was once afraid of the day,
The day, the last day, he would be on the earth to stay
Yet he was not afraid, he felt enlightened
A full life he had lived, no reason to be frightened

His vision was blurred, but he could see the light
He had no more feeling, but he felt right
His eyes closed, breathing his last shallow breaths
This is not the end. this is only death
