Patriotism

The stars gleam with hero's breath.
Whose willing sacrifices
have led to untimely death.
Valor and courage put to the test,
an act of bravery laid a warrior to rest.
A triumphant battle that was won,
yet another mother has
lost yet another son.
children without fathers,
husbands without wives,
A victory in exchange for thousands of lives.

Is this all worth it?
These sleepless nights,
full of terror, filled with fright?
Many have asked, and I answer you this:

Without love for one's country,
there isn't anything left to miss.
No stars, no stripes, and no
Red, White, and Blue.
A prison of governing greed,
Impossible to break through.

Mouths, but no freedom.
Bodies, but no rights.
Trials, but no justice,
An endless tunnel with no light.
