Perpendicular

An idea.
I may do a Bukowski-type poem, yes sir, disregard style bible
scholastics, words without caps, sparse punctuation, employ
a skinny perpendicular layout.
I’ll need a theme —
I could
compose
a life-on-the-fringes
poem
typified
by gritty realism
world-weariness
or
offer a
dialogue poem
I could
parody
obscure poetry
artful piracy
workshops
or
characterize
quiet wisdom
confess
I’m a procrastinator
I might
deconstruct
The Red Wheelbarrow
imagist poetry
comment on
overuse of similes
Wordsworth’s
belief in preexistence
Ray Carver’s
Cobweb poem
defend
Galway Kinnell’s lexicon
possibly
examine
mortality
after all
I am
in my ninth decade.
