Pieces

Unrequited love.
Gift given, taken wholly.
Passion blinding truth
Desperately I do not want to see.
I gave myself, you accepted.
My heart is yours, you take it.
Listen to my thoughts, you listen.
Listen to my mind, you challenge me.
I serve you, am with you, encourage you, rely on you, listen to you.
I fulfill your fantasies. You begin to fulfill mine.
But the curtain is finally pulled away,
And I see all I knew was never there.
Unrequited love.
You dangled it in front of me.
I fell for your trap. You snatched it away.
Your heart will never be mine.
Your thoughts were never mine.
Your mind I can never measure up to.
Your love, I cannot find it, I cannot seek it, I cannot have it.
Knowledge only brings exquisite pain.
My heart pieced together once before,
Once again lies shattered.
First thrown down selfishly,
Second, dropped carelessly, thoughtlessly.
Where have all the pieces gone?
