You swallow your words
Until they fill your throat and suffocate you.
And if by some chance you let them slip out,
It doesn't making breathing any easier.
It's like you have so much inside of you
That you want people to understand.
But even when you let them see,
They can't wrap their minds around you.
And somehow giving them a piece of yourself,
However small it may be, makes you feel ashamed.
Exposed. Vulnerable.
So you swallow your words.
You swallow them down like pills,
And sedate yourself into silence.
And the world goes on around you,
never knowing the difference.
