Playing Pretend

Distant days hold past pains,
Lost memories are unnoticed stains,
The moon rises while the sun still shines,
The sky is littered with uneven lines,
An empty palace with room for none,
Windows filter light in from the sun,
The moon still glows a vibrant white,
Only to be seen at night,
Invisible to the naked eye,
Like children who bear a silent cry,
While darkness creeps in alleyways,
Contempt for love brings darker days,
The moon shines on with hope of healing,
Light from the sun promotes concealing,
Truth will be exposed at night,
When the sun surrenders to this fight,
Until then, the moon cannot mend,
Day will continue as pretend.
