Poem at Forty-Six

Poem at Forty-Six

Today I celebrate my life,
Which may be more than half over
In terms of years, or measured time.
It feels like the forty-six years
That I have lived till now
Are only the foundation on which to build
The life I really want.
I will not say they have been for naught
For there is much in them
For which I am thankful.
My children, my grandchildren
Are treasures to cherish.
But a new time is beginning,
A time to learn, a time to grow,
A time to feel more deeply,
A time for self-nurturing.
But also for reaching out
With open arms, open mind, and
Open heart
To all the experiences yet to come
During my time upon this earth.
