The first time I read an entire poetry book I was seven
A friend of my dad’s gave it to him
I sat down to look at it
I could not stop until I finished
From then on I always asked for poetry books
And I started writing some of my own verses
I felt then what it was like to be in love with something
And not someone

Once I wrote about the moon
I was ten years’ old
I said the moon knew what it was like
To love and let go

I have never believed in forever
I have never dreamt of forever
Never promised myself forever
Because I know
Forever is the most fragile thing
I knew
From when I was seven years’ old
Poetry would be the one
That wouldn’t leave me
