Poet’s Heart

Beneath a starry veil I rest
Fully laid upon the plain;
Gazing up at lighted crest,
Ears fixed on Heaven's strain.
A dreamer's dream floats like a cloud
And hovers in the balmy air.
The viol plays the solemn sound
To complete the harmonized pair.
But, like all that is a dream,
The cloud swiftly drifts apart.
The last note played at day's first gleam,
Then sinks my burdened heart.
