Power Currupts

I gained my power through the will of the people
The promise of brighter days to come
An end to the constant bickering
A return to a higher level of civilization

But my idealism has been bought by favors
You owe us, they remind me
Good intentions derailed by low polling numbers
Two terms not enough to contain this ego

If you cross me I never forgive
I'll get even one way or another
How dare you question my vision?
I know you better than you know yourself

It will take a thousand years to put out my fires
My legacy can't be vetoed by historians
Let history show I took care of my people
All it took was sacrificing truth for power
