Precious Cargo

Bless the wings that flew you into our world,
We jumped for joy when told you were a girl.
God sent us a message saying, "You have won,"
Because Mercedes is the one.

Time waits for no one precious cargo,
But, somehow time stopped just for you.
We are your uncle, aunt and godparents now,
You've changed our lives, you not know how.

We thought we had seen it all before,
And our lives were becoming such a bore.
Now we wait for your first Christmas Day,
So we can watch you jump, play and tear.

You are like a shadow in our hearts,
And like a gunshot telling us to start.
Remember that life is not fair to everyone,
And you will find those with their lives worth none.

What's in the future, you will decide,
Remember you will need someone by your side.
You are suddenly fifteen years old,
And you are just starting to see the real world.

Like the bird that flies freely over the sea,
Do not forget we love you, Auntie and me.
A part of you will always be a part of us,
Until we all become fine desert dust.
