Prejudice
In the ghettos?
Where people believe gunfire is the only language.
In white suburbia?
Where the sun outshines the torches.
Is it found by one person?
By the black student pinned to the ground.
Is it found in communities?
That no longer see the police as people.
Does my mother find it?
A woman dealt a terrible hand.
Does my father find it?
A man as old as the calluses on his hands.
Is it found in a black barber?
That ignores me so he doesn’t have to cut my hair.
Is it found in my uncles and aunts?
That eye me cause I don’t speak Spanish.
Or love me cause I speak Chinese.
Is it found in immigrants?
That sick together and become the problem.
Is it found in society?
That fosters greed, hatred, and all other sins.
Is it found in nature?
In the racism of natural selection
Is there a solution?
Can I help?
This Poems Story
During an unfavorable visit to a new barber shop, I wrote this poem in light of the nasty feeling I had endured. Although I hold no malice for the barber in question, I questions is actions and his thoughts.
