Presence of a Life Passed

In the amity of silence, I can hear it
Tiptoeing in the shadows and the recesses of my memories
Whispering out in remembrance of past moments
Lingering, just on the cusp of yesterday

I close my eyes and I see it there
A mirage, fading and unclear at times
Dancing in the darkness that surrounds it
A glimpse, gone just as I reach out to grasp it

Its presence can be felt in the heart
At unexpected times
An old friend never to be turned away
Always embraced for whatever meaning it may hold

No one can know the struggles and the heartache left behind
No one can understand the arduous journey prolonged in its life
Learning to let go; our final goodbye
From friend to friend, you will forever be with me
