Pulled Away

If the moon were to
Fall away from the earth-
Pulled back to Heaven
By the will of some
Greedy angel that's
Afraid of the dark-
I would be bereft.
Not because the waters
Of the earth would go haywire,
Their tides going out of
Control, enthralled in the anarchy
That stemmed from the
Loss of their governor.
Not because I would miss
That silvery, glistening procession
Across the night sky (which
I would, it simply would not
Cause my heartache).
I would be distraught because
The pale, shimmering light would
Never again shine in you, never
Illuminate you in a cloak of
Its stately light.
With a night that black,
I'd rather
Go blind.
