Pursuit of Today

By Justin

As I rise for the day
My goal is perfection.
Though failure is possible
It is not even an option.
My fear of disappointment
Drives me to the point of exhaustion.
I am not a burden to those who care
But I feel as though I am.
This pressure I feel
I cannot explain
For it only comes from my brain.
I have sought help
To deal with the pain
But relief could not be sustained.
I feel empty when I make a mistake.
Although I am not
I feel like a failure.
I wish there was something
To take this heartache
But there is no person
Who can do this for me.
There is but one cure
For problems such as these.
My relief comes from Above
As it is in Him
That I am complete.
There is no help
That can even compete.
My burdens have lifted.
My shackles are gone.
And as I lay down tonight
I hear the words,
Good job My good and faithful servant
Well done.

A story about the life of a sibling of an individual with special needs. Trying to attain perfection so that you don't feel like an added burden to my family and others.
