Put On A Smile

I put on a smile
And pretend it is real
That I am smart, popular, happy.
I dream, hope, and try
But I will never be good enough.
And I put on a smile.
For their sakes or mine?
I trudge through the day
Lost and uncertain.
I put up a wall
Hiding in the shadows
With a smile on my face.
They look at me and see
A picture of confidence and intelligence
Oh, how they are fooled!
I hide behind my facade
A smile holds my mask in place
Thats keeps them from seeing beneath.
A grin
A laugh
A smile, thats all.
