questions of devotion

Another city left laid to waste
another line, from the book, erased
here and gone, cast unto the wind
starry eyed we gazed upon that golden shore
dared to dream, that dream once more
of fairy tale lives, with a happy end
so i scaled that mountain, i braved that storm
carried that banner, all frayed and torn
all through the wastelands, to the end of the line
i followed the rules, and i took the advice
i forsaken sin, and all pleasurable vice
to discover that paradise, i intended to find
and when i step upon those silver sands
across the border, onto those promised lands
will i know the value, of the labor i endured?
will i see my great reward, get what i got in store
into the open arms of the one i adore
