Quiet Contentment

It speaks to me
This gentle occurrence
This simple ignorance
To the worlds heavy burdens

The petals bloom
It continually grows
It ignores all life’s woes
And contemptible folly

I sit mesmerized
As it follows the light
Its beauty never trite
And should never be so

A boy meanders by
Stopping to regard such a flower
Its beauty seeming to empower
I smile at this simple recognition

His mother hurries by
Quick feet and scolded word
The boy’s joy deterred
As he leaves

Yet I sit quite content
Watching my flower
Until it starts to shower
Then I run for cover as it stands glad
