Quixotic Verses on the Edge of Sleep

The night is ink, the stars are prose,
A dreamer drifts where silence flows.
His thoughts take flight, yet falter fast—
Bright quixotic hymns that cannot last.

He rides through realms of silver mist,
A knight of dawn, by fate dismissed.
Each word he casts, a fleeting spark,
That dies before it pierces dark.

The sky, a tome of shattered lines,
Where fables fade and hope unwinds.
For though he fights with breath and quill,
No verse can bend the world’s cruel will.

Yet still, he writes in trembling light,
His hand defying endless night.
Though all dissolves, though dreams must weep,
He rhymes against the edge of sleep.

This Poems Story

Background: Inspired by the word \"quixotic,\" meaning idealistic to the point of being impractical, this poem follows a dreamer who battles against the limitations of reality. He is a knight of words, wielding poetry against the overwhelming dark of sleep, forgetfulness, and time. The imagery of ink, stars, and fading verses suggests the struggle of all artists and dreamers fighting to immortalize beauty and meaning, even when the world seems indifferent. The final lines depict an act of defiance: even knowing that dreams will fade, he continues to write, believing that art, however brief, is still worth creating.
