Rainy Days

It's like waking up to a sky of rain
Love and promises that never came
Clouds fill the night, casting shadows
Turning my dreams into empty shallows

It's like seeing myself slip away with you
Every memory and past time, too
That empty spot you feel so deep
When you give yourself to someone to keep

It's like the sharpest pain that won't suffice
When you lose yourself to your own advice
And you dance around your hollow lies
Because the truth is lost in your empty eyes

It's like laughing when you want to cry
But you fake a smile, so they won't ask why
And every happy moment you happen to share
You can't help but wish he was there

It's like uttering the words It's okay, I'm fine
When they're the only words not on your mind
Carrying out conversations that you don't mean
Because you're off with him in another daydream

It's like saying I love you to someone new
And having them say it back to you
And there he is in the beat of your heart
Because if there was never an end, there can't be a fresh start
