Reaching Out

I don't know from whence it came or when in time
this note in a bottle
lonely on some foreign, forgotten shore
distant as in some ol' grainy movie
yet it whispers still to this aching heart
not unlike a summer breeze to the weary
evoking thoughts of a beautiful maiden
lost in sorrow for a fallen soldier
who never returned as he had promised
to carry her burdens and woes
to share her joys and treasures
and so she does what is relief
tossing words afloat in aftershave
expressing in a moment of grief
the pain of a love shattered.
