Real Life Awaits

I wonder how was life when
I didn't know how to care
When being alone in a dark room
was my only fear

My father's arms around me
and kisses from my mother
Both protecting me from
the world that bothers

I thought growing up
would render me freedom
Now I realize carelessness just
blinded me of the obligations to come

In hindsight, I was
allowed to be imperfect
But that couldn't last forever
Because real life awaits
