Rebuidling Life

I found you and I learned to smile again
I met you and I learned to laugh again
when I was alone you showed up and became a friend
when I tried bettering myself
you supported me and stood by me
you asked for nothing in return
a companionship developed into love
the love you have given me is what I needed
the humane way you treated me was welcomed
since the years have passed and we're still together
laughing and smiling just the same as in the beginning
I have learned from you
that patience, love and trust
respect, good disposition, and quiet temper
help with the two of us engaging with one another
I hope you know that what I feel for you is real
that through the test of time
I still need you, want you, and love you
I hold our relationship sacred
even with all the ups and downs that we have had
to know you are there for me no matter what
to know you have eased my pain
and given me something I thought I'd never have
when once life destroyed me
now life has been kind to me
I'm rebuilding a life
and you are so welcomed in it
