Red White and Boom

Going into battle not knowing
If I’m going to survive
With stars and stripes by my side
I think to myself
My mother- So worried
My brother’s name carved in stone
A tear of life - drips down
Into a puddle
That I wish I hadn’t found
Lifeless eyes stare
Blood is spilled
Nameless tags fall,
My own gone
On the ground I lay like I was a seed - not ready to sprout

11 days later

“He was brave,”
A blur is all she could see

11 days later

When the Stars and Stripes were folded
Rivers ran
21 shots fired
