I thought of the great Beis Hamikdash
in the city of Yerushalayim.
I thought of its splendid beauty,
of which all of Yehudah had seen.
I thought of all the harps and lyres
on which the music was played.
I thought of all the sacrifices and supplications prayed.
I thought of the Selucid empire
and the king that stepped in the way.
I thought of how it must have felt,
witnessing the desecration of those days.
I thought of all the wondrous acts,
the Macabim had done.
I thought of the faith and spirit that goes forth
when His kingdom come.
