Reflection

There's a girl in the mirror,
one who looks like me.
There's a girl in the mirror,
whose eyes are full of misery.

There's a girl in the mirror,
she's seen hatred, pain, and grief.
There's a girl in the mirror,
her life a flickering flame, silent and brief.

I've tried so many times to look away,
but she's always in front of me to my dismay.
She and I are one and the same,
locked in a twisted, horrible game.

And though the time will arrive for me to die,
she'll join me and watch the end of the life I call a lie.
But for now she and I await for the day to arrive,
when we'll come to appreciate the miracle of being alive.
