Regrets

Here today, gone tomorrow,
And when they leave we feel such sorrow
Had we known this was coming
Would we have done things differently
Made more visits, calls,
Realized that we were not too busy after all
Not took for granted that they would always be there
Took time to be present, time to care, time to listen, time to share
Shared their laughter, joy, tears, and sorrow
Realized that we do not always have tomorrow
Would we have been the best friend that we could possibly be
Showed more acts of kindness, behaved unselfishly
Offered up words of encouragement or even just a smile
So many little things that are all worthwhile
Made more memories to cherish and treasure
Little things worth more than any can measure
If we take time to make the most of each and every day
Then if one we love ends up passing away
There is one thing you can surely bet
We would not have to live with such regret
