Its an annual occurrence
the way it has happened every year
since i've been a teenager, exclusive to october
I met you in the streetlights
the light from your radio casting a blue light
comforting the depths of your face
you never felt content
remaining in such a shallow and degrading place
which would explain your sudden departure during june
leaving behind the half of you i was oblivious to
you left her and I behind
with the intent of becoming a man
The man your father daydreamed of you becoming
you became respectable in a uniform
otherwise unremarkable
they say knowledge accompanies age
yet i have found with age only comes the poetinal
of educating oneself
yet here we are at 5 in the morning
with your radio softly playing in your car
I realize 18 may make you a man by definition
but you bear all the ignorance of a child
