Relentless Tide

I wonder
the tide would say to the mainland,
if it ever got past the shores of separation.
I wonder
tidal waves are what happen when the tide becomes so desperate
he forgets his place
and briefly kisses what he knows he cannot have-
just so his agony may subside a little while.
Lord knows, after such a sweet a taste,
he will come back for more.
I wonder why
he has yet
to give up hope.
