Remember

when we played outdoors
and our world knew no boundaries
when Mother Nature ruled our hearts
do you remember candles
when we doused the flickering flames
and the swirling smoke carried sweet wishes
when small numbers made a big difference
do you remember hugs
when Love was friends and family
and parents were our biggest heroes
when Valentine's Day meant chocolate
do you remember dreams
when we rose with the sun
and we could be anything we wanted to be
when we grew up
do you remember innocence

I am currently a junior at Cinco Ranch High School in Katy, Texas. I've been writing poetry for as long as I can remember; this is the third poem I've published in an anthology. Apart from writing, I also enjoy performing. I've been given roles in several theatrical productions and am also a viloinist in my school's orchestra. I would like to thank my family and friends for their loving support. I dedicate this poem to my little sister, Lindsay, whose youthful innocence served as a source of inspiration for this piece.
