Remember Them

Simple and unworthy,
A creature such as I,
Bonded to a being as omnipotent
And marvelous as yourself.
How could this be?

My Lord, why do you insist
on resting in places where a king should not dwell?
For even at the hour of your birth
Your simplicity glorified you.

Will you accept my offering?
Oh King of Mercy remember your children,
Those who restlessly walk the road
Which ends at your doorstep.
Have they not suffered enough?
Father, your son took my everlasting punishment,
Let me take their temporary one.

For now, lift the weights
Holding your little ones down,
Allow them to run to you
With their new and clean hearts.

As I walk this walk,
Gift me with perseverance.
Let my death be the time I finally find
Ease and peace.
