Remember Them

Remember the tickets drawn and the young men enlisting
Remember the letters, the mothers and fathers listening
As their boy is sent to a place of rumor
And they soon find out it's not just in good humor
Remember them...
Remember the terror and fear of the unknown
And the young men wishing that they were at home
Remember the news every day at five
Real and scary and all filmed live
Remember them...

Remember the bombs and coordinates shouted
The ringing of ears and hearts that pounded
Guns fired and shells littered the ground
As bodies dropped without a sound
Remember them...

Remember their welcome as one of chaos
As the citizens cried,"Why have we lost?"
Remember the insults of an ungrateful nation
As the soldiers faced trauma and degradation
Remember them...

Remember the soldiers who gave their lives
And the ones who are lucky to even be alive
Treat them with respect and remember to pray
For the soldiers who are fighting to this very day
