Remembering Sadness

Sometimes the sadness hits when you least expect it.
A day can go so well, but when the night falls and the world is quiet
And all that you're left with are your thoughts
There is no smile, only sadness
Along with the exhaustion of trying
Of pushing through the day and pretending you’re okay
Of forgetting that you’re not, and being reminded unexpectedly.
I keep thinking that I am okay,
But then,
I remember.
I have sunshine during the day
And I tell myself,
“Forgetting when there is sunlight is better than not forgetting at all.”
And yet
That makes the dark reminders all the more lonely, and sad
Because the sadness hits sometimes
When I least expect it.
