RESILIENCE

I woke up today to see
a quite whole different me,
a girl who is making better choices
someone who is living free.
In a world with no more pain
workin' like I've got something to gain.
Today I'm feeling just a little bit lucky,
family and friends no longer trying to "duck me."
I want to do right
each new day and every night.
I'm waking up early
and I'm seeing the light
the past is the past
and I gave up the fight.
I'm going to walk down my street
and greet each person I meet
with my chin in the air
no looking down, nothin' to see there.
I've picked myself up before
and I'll do it again
'cause my life-once a struggle
I thought I'd never win.
So, now it's time to define
the whole "new" me- priorities re-arranged
to show the world how great I can be.
