Ride of life

Constantly afraid, I hide from incidents of life
Fearing the unknown, and fearing pain and strife
Living for the joy, for euphoria and bliss
But scared it will fade away, dissolve in the nebulous abyss
Like unruly swells offshore, surging up then crashing down
Like an unforgiving ocean, we can breathe or we can drown
At times atop a glinting crest, flying swiftly with the current
With pleasure I am blessed; I forget about the torment
Then nearly grandiose, my regal wave begins to fall
Weighed with gloom and darkened hopes, plainly weakened from it all
The impact is unbearable, laced with regretful revelations
With sleepless nights and lowered heights, I grieve for distant expectations
And absurdly after scarring, after I reclaim a hollow voice
I roll forth again with cresting waves because I have no choice
