“Rising to Our Feet”

The hurt I see radiating,
Enough to break my heart.
Part of me wishes I could submit,
But I have lived that life already.
I will never submit again,
Never stop fighting.

We will never stop.

My voice shakes but I have never felt so strong.
I force myself to my feet;
I must stand on my own.
I raise my chin, feeling the pulse,
It electrifies me.

They follow me,
Faces set and determined.
I think I see the dawn in their eyes.
