Roots and Wings

We've come the miles and
past the tests
We've been there and done that
we can attest.

No badge of courage upon our chest
Just pale and shallow lines at rest.

We stepped back and acknowledged
time and tears both sad and glad
We recognize it all has formed our ways
both good and bad.

We've found our family and faced the
roots of the tree
We see our love for each other and now
know the past has been set free.

We look to each other for comfort
and serenity
We now ask will you take my hand
and walk the miles with me.

We now talk with our hearts
and laugh from our souls
Oh my, what a peaceful place
to rest and grow old.
