Rose Girl

Her skin bloomed like a rose beneath my fingertips
Honey voice trickling into my ears
Like sap from a tree
Eyelashes like snowflakes
Eyes that held stars
And hands that possessed my heart
She was fire
I was rain
Though I never tried to put out her flame
A soulful ocean flowed through her
Pregnant with possibilities
The universe seemed to her
Many routes with no direction
Seashell lips pursed upward
Strong heart
Strong mind
Weak bones and muscles
Blood like liquid gold
She stood tall as a mountain
But emotions that dove deep into her mind
Her lungs were deflated
Her rib cage tied her heart up in chains
Shackles holding her with gravity in their favor
