Rotting Family Tree

I'm a piece of you. Entangled in your genes.
Unable to be removed, not even by surgical teams.
I'm not a tumor, no cancerous lump you despise with your entire soul.
I'm not the pesky, sticky gum wad
attached to the bottom of your sole.
Although damn I sure do feel that low.
I am a piece of you...and you a piece of me.
Let's accept what's painfully true and finally find some peace.
I'm an extension of you, a branch on the Redwood of our family tree.
I've chained myself around it, a silent protest. Leave me be.
Don't accept my lifestyle, ignore it. I don't care
But don't saw off a limb that is me...that's nowhere near fair.
