It's the day before trash day and under the sink
There's a bagful of garbage that's starting to stink.
In the barrel the refuse gives off a sharp smell
Cause it's summer and kitchen waste doesn't
For the recycling plant there is plastic and tin
Filling separate bags in a separate bin.
On our street there's a guy who gets dirt on his face
Plucking bottles and cans from unwelcoming space.
If your car's at the curb for the parking cop's
He'll knock on your door as a neighborly measure.
The bin-grabbing truck is the day's special feature
Manhandling the cans with its prehensile reacher.
No more sweating crews as once emptied the trash,
How they hustled and whistled. What strength!
