Run in the Sun

I went for a run in the sun,
'Cause I thought it'd be fun.
Not sure why,

Just gave it a try.
After the first mile,
I was feeling in style.
I was running pretty fast,
It was a blast!

Then it got hot,
Why'd I do this? I thought.
There was no doubt
That I'd pass out.

Don't worry, I think
I'll soon get a drink.
Keep moving, don't stop,
Or else I'm gonna drop.

The sun, it is setting,
And I'm still sweating.
My heart, it is racing,
Perhaps from my pacing.

The run is complete,
I'm outta this heat!
A new personal best,
Time for a rest.

This Poems Story

I have always been an avid runner. I have run two marathons and at the time of writing "Run in the Sun," I was recovering from a knee injury. It is my hope that the poems I write about running will help encourage others like me. My dad has always inspired me to train hard and I am very grateful to have his support. Also, my mom and two older sisters were there for me when I ran my first marathon. This poem is dedicated to my family. I love them and thank them for running alongside me.
