Running Backwards

I've been drinking again
It's all thanks to you
Your eyes, your lips
That look you give

Drown out my problems in a bottle of jack
Memories of you rumbling in the ice
The jack runs out and it's shot for shot
Each shot replacing a night spent with you

I wanted to write a love poem for you
Give it to you with a dozen roses
Instead I bleed this onto loose paper
Give it to my therapist with a hundred dollars

How quickly we went from "how cute" to "what happened"
How quickly you gave up on our sparks and passion
How quickly I realized his scent in the shower
How quickly the anger changed to despair

I guess it's true what they say
Love is temporary
Love is a mystery
Love is a disaster
