Sadness and Fear

By

Today, the world isn't the same
You don't get it
You live in this bubble
A world of priviledge
I have walked down the same street for many years
Always comfortable with the walk home
Same town, same state, same country
Well correction, not the same country any more
Something has changed
Once a street full of laughing children,
is now eerily silent.
No one looks at each other
No one even says hello anymore
We all see the same thing in each other's eyes
Pure sadness and fear, we now live in it
You haven't lived the life where you are
judged for your skin color or beliefs
judged for your choices no matter what they are
You would not tolerate what I see
So why are you telling me to be calm, invalidate me
When the attack on our lives is clear,
We live in sadness and fear
