Same Night

Dark skies, rainy clouds
Shy stars, shiny streets
Dim lights, chilly breeze.
Clustered houses, solitary roads
Freezing trees, lonely homes
Crying babies, screaming fathers
Tiring mothers, sleeping children.
Drinking driver, straying dog, searching pal, traffic light.
Ignition, steering, tears, running
Green light, yellow light, red light
Shadowy sight, uncontrolled race, flooding memories, frustrated pace
Loud pound, screeching brakes
Stillness, calmness, hush hush hush
For a moment!
911, deafening sirens, buzzing phones, scurrying steps
Emergency calls, blood blood blood
Wheeling beds, desperate nurses, gasping patients, courageous doctors
Beeping monitors, erratic pulses, defibrillators, and then...
Stillness, calmness, hush hush hush
And then...
Relief, sigh, cryin baby, tearing mother
Hail hail hail.
Dark skies, rainy clouds
Shy stars, shiny streets
Dim lights, Chilly breeze
A life lost, another found, same night!
