Sand Dollar

As I walk along the beach
A set of footprints follows
I stop to see, just out of reach
A glimmer in the shallows

The golden sunset, like the tide
Ebbs slowly from the sand
Revealing now what it would hide
And I reach out my hand

The glimmer that had caught my eyes
Though hardly worth a cent
I hold as though it were a prize
The ocean had just spent

No bank can tell me of its worth
For priceless are the things
We take for granted on this earth
And all the joy they bring

Of this no bard can write a poem
No artist paint a picture
For as I took this treasure home
I felt a little richer.
