Scarlet Letters

Driving away – shoulder deep in a heap of trash
I’ve seen yours.
Landscape business start-up
Did your parents tell you we talked, and I know yours.
Mowing the yard for a friend,
And a motor home that’s never been
On a solo expedition, but on a double.
My sad suspicions are confirmed.
Extended stay away, you say.
We’ll see how long yours stays shining.

If only the world were a deserted stage
Would all the acting be honest then?
We all wear scarlet letters.
Bright, flaming scarlet letters.
