Scattered

I am a dead leaf
Loosely nestled between the twigs of a tree I am unfamiliar with
Too stiff and brittle to slip through their grasp
Until the wind snatches me away
And I am carried farther from my hometree
Cast to the ground where their heels crush me
Pressing me into the cold, damp soil
Where I finally diminish

Where once I had a place in the sky amongst the birds with their songs in the early morning hours
I am now a bed of flowers
