Screaming Secrets

The ice is falling
Every step a potential fall
I hear time calling
Then I hear nothing at all
There are secrets in the way the branches blow
And secrets in the pattern of ice on the sidewalk
These are secrets we all know
Yet we seldom talk
I sit alone in low lamplight
I talk to this page
Somehow everything's going to be alright
It comes slowly with age
As wrinkles appear
As aches manifest
Things become clear
Hearts begin to rest
Secrets pumping through indigo veins
Tiny bubbles become thought
A shining moon wanes
Falling stars can't be caught
The secret whispered to every spirit
The only thing you get to keep
If you listen you'll always hear it
Screaming in the deep
