Season Change

A flash of willow bend
over water,
spangled in sun
as the waves come softly in,
the canoe tipped back
against the rain,
the raft settled
on the grass,
the men working
to bring the dock in,
the light softer
as the cooling of autumn
brings the wind-
the snow and halo
of winter's glare
soon to trail
this flush of leaves
whistled over dirt roads
and hardened trails;
the darkened mornings
seen from beneath sheets.
